Bumi Pemuda Rahayu is an arts centre located in the village of Munthuk in Dlingo Imogiri. This newly formed centre which aims to support a vision of environmental sustainability within the arts on a practical and theoretical level.

Architecturally the site itself is built on a model of self-sustainability, using various methods to approach minimum carbon footprint. All the materials used have been chosen for its lowest impact on energy, using recycled materials with the main building itself made from bamboo. All its waste will be recycled or composted, with specially designed human waste recycling plant to generate electrical power. The garden has been planned to be completely edible.

Aside from its architectural and environmental focus the other important aim is to support the local community. All programs run at the centre involve the local community and aims to contribute to their education through skill sharing workshops and development, with a focus first on what the community needs.

Bumi Pemuda Rahayu has hosted in the past a 3 month long artist residency in 2013, Mizuma a Japanese bamboo master craftsman, Papermoon Puppet Theatre Company and Rayuan Pulau Kelapa — an innovative project that explores the politics of  food.

Kristi is currently working as the Program Manager at BPR and has most recently finished facilitating a series of children’s workshops in partnership with Hackteria Lab 2014—an organisation that connects many different bio-art and open source communities across the globe.

The children’s workshops worked with ideas such as: how make sounds out of fruit or Bio-Synth run Pia Van Gelder, introduction to 3D printing by Michael Candy, understanding design process by Karkhana (Nepal) and make your own bugs by WAFT Collective from Surabaya. This program will run for a further 5 months with a focus on science, nutritional health and childhood education.

Bumi Pemuda Rahayu is funded by the FORD FOUNDATION and the SIDHARTA ABOEJONO MARTOREDJO FUND FOR ARTS AND ECOLOGY
