Alay Culture

Alay Culture is a live art work exploring new forms of rave culture straight out of the village. Bringing together traditional dangdut styles that harness inexpensive electronic musical equipment, Alay Culture draws on traditional trance ritual, re-imagining this as bloodletting spectacle. This collaborative performance blends film, visual art, and experimental music, with sub-narrative cinema structures, to create a lavish re-interpretation of this Indonesian pop phenomenon.
