Ancient MSG

Ancient MSG is an experimental, subversive pantomime, bringing to life the mystical revelations of the Javanese prophet, Jayabaya. In the twelfth century, Jayabaya – King of Kediri Java, predicted many truths about the twenty-first century, including the shift to e-commerce, the push for transgender marriage, the existence of parallel universes, environmental disasters, mistrust of religion, and the eternal battle between good and evil.

Ancient MSG was created by Indonesian artists Ican Harem, Tamara Pertamina, Andreas Siagian and Lintang Radittya, with Australian artists Debris Facility, Lara Thoms, Tarquin Manek and Tim Dwyer. The collective of artists work across an array of practices, including live video, synth building, hacker collectives, experimental music, traditional craft, fashion, biohacking, sculpture and live art.

Presented as part of Gertrude Contemporary’s cultural exchange program – The Independence Project.
